Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar (Nickname: Sachin, Tendulkar, Master Blaster, Little Master, Dada) was an Indian Cricketer and Captain representing the Indian Cricket Team from 1989 to 2013. So far (In  2024) he is the only International Cricketer with 100 centuries on his account.

Early Life:

Sachin was born on April 24, 1973, in Mumbai, India. Cricket fans worldwide celebrate his birth date to recognise his contribution to Cricket. 

His love for Cricket emerged when he watched the Indian Cricket team lift the 1983 Cricket World Cup Trophy under the leadership of Kapil Dev (he was just 10 then). The Bollywood biopic of the 1983 World Cup, "83," released on December 24th, 2021, also featured Sachin as a Cricket fan kid. 

Height:

Sachin's height in feet without shoes is 1.65m.

School Cricket:

Sachin started playing for his school. He came to the limelight when he scored a classical world record partnership of 664 runs along with Vinod Kambli. Both of them later on opened for the Indian Cricket team in the 1996 Cricket World Cup. Sachin's unbeaten 349 announced his arrival on the Cricketing map. The Cricket World was to hear a lot from Sachin Tendulkar in upcoming years.


First Class Debut:

He made his first-class debut when he was just 15 representing his native city Mumbai. In that particular game, he smashed a hundred.


Test Debut:

The Indian team was scheduled to tour Pakistan its arch-rivals in 1989. Sachin Tendulkar managed to win the confidence of the selectors at the age of just 16 and was selected by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for the crucial Pakistan tour.

The Indian team was supposed to play 4 tests and 4 ODI match series against the Pakistan team. 

On 15th November 1989, Sachin made his debut in test Cricket at the National Stadium, Karachi (Now, National Bank Cricket Arena, Karachi). At just 16 years and 205 days, he became the youngest Indian player who debuted for India in International Cricket. He got a chance to bat in the first innings and managed to score 15 runs. During the second innings, he could not get the chance to bat. That 4 match series ended up 0-0 as all the matches went drawn.


ODI Debut:

In the very same 1989 tour to Pakistan, he made his One-Day International Cricket debut against Pakistan on December 18th, 1989 at Jinnah Cricket Stadium, Gujranwala. In this rain-affected game, India lost by 7 runs.


T20I Debut:

Sachin Tendulkar made his T20I debut on December 1st, 2006 vs South Africa at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa. India ended up victorious.

Stats:

Sachin used to be known as a batter who did not fear any kind of bowler and his consistency. Apart from his 100 centuries in International Cricket he also scored 96 ODI half-centuries and 68 test half-centuries. He is considered as the best batter ever produced by India. 


Cricket World Cup:

Sachin made his World Cup debut in 1992 and played 6 ODI World Cups. In 2011, he equalled the record of Pakistan's ex-premier batter Javed Miandad of playing six ODI World Cups. He was also the top scorer in the 1996 Cricket World Cup and the 2003 Cricket World Cup. In 2003, he earned the Man of the Tournament award where India remained runner-up. 

In 1996, he was unstoppable smashing runs and in the semi-final against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens Cricket Ground, Kolkata he brought India into a favourable position to win but after his departure, India saw a sudden collapse and disruption by the crowd ended up declaring Sri Lanka the victorious side.

After the tragic exit from the first round of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup hosted by West Indies Sachin decided to retire from International Cricket but was convinced by his friends and family members to not retire from the International circuit. Sachin gave in.

In 2011 the ICC Cricket World Cup was hosted by India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka where India ended up victorious defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets and lifting the trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Sachin was given a guard of honour after the match.

 

Last Match

Sachin played his last ODI against Pakistan during the 2012 Asia Cup at Mirpur, Dhaka. He played his last international match at Vakhende Stadium, in Mumbai. He especially requested the BCCI to have the last game in Mumbai so his mother could visit the venue and watch the game. His last appearance was against West Indies. The man who kept on making records ended his career by achieving another record of becoming the first-ever Cricketer to play 200 test matches. He scored 74 in his last test innings. After getting dismissed both the teams and the crowd gave him a standing ovation recognising his contribution to Cricket. At the end of the match, he gave a special farewell speech in which he thanked his family and fans for believing in him. He especially said, "I had spent 24 years of my life on 22 yards crease it is difficult to think what I am gonna do in future without Cricket".
